Going Solo: Kerri 2.13

"Boyd...what...what are you doing here?"

"Looking for you. You are a hard woman to find. Took the PI I hired weeks to locate you."

I thought back and remembered the guy that was taking pictures. He was a PI? Hired by Boyd? Suddenly I was very nervous. How long had that guy been following me? Did he know where Sha and I lived? Had he seen Davis? That last question was the most worrisome.

"Why were you looking for me?"

He gave me a smile, the one that used to make my heart beat a little faster and he took a step closer.

"I've missed you Kerri."

"You didn't seem to be missing me when you were sucking face with that vampire tramp!"

I turned to leave, my heart was pounding. I didn't want him here, and I didn't want him to find out about my son. Boyd stepped in front of me stopping my progress.

"I was wrong for that, Kerri. I'm sorry. It...it was my mother. She wanted me to live a certain life, but I don't want her. I want you."

I tried to side step him. I didn't want to have this conversation. I had Sha, I was happy. He had no right to come here and mess things up. No right at all.

"Come on, Kerri. I know you can forgive me. I forgave you."

"What?" I asked shocked. "Forgave me? For what?"

"For cheating on me of course. I fed from you, I got flashes of you with that witch your with now. So we can let bygones be bygones and get us back."

I was waiting for the punchline that never came. He really thought I would take him back. Sure I'd technically cheated on him with Sha, but what he did was different. He was engaged to be married and never told me. I could have ended up the other woman. Just then a memory hit me, when I went back for Dad's funeral I remembered seeing the wedding announcement in the paper.

"There's no us Boyd, not any more. You need to leave me alone and go back to your wife."

I stressed the last word with a much venom as I could muster. How dare he come here and make these false claims when he was married to that woman. Boyd looked surprised that I knew, but said nothing. I stormed past him and raced home.

Soon as I got there I told Sha what happened. My anger gave way to fear since I worried he'd find Davis. She tried to assure me everything would be fine and if he tried anything, she'd turn him into a toad. That night I had a hard time sleeping. I kept fearing I'd wake up to find Davis gone. A few days went by and there was no contact from Boyd. I was hopeful he'd gone back to Bridgeport.

Going Solo: Kerri 2.11

Davis had both Sha and I wrapped around his little finger. He was adorable, and generally a very good baby. I would spend hours just watching him sleep. Sha and I split the late night feedings and diaper changes. The doctors said we wouldn't know until his birthday if he had inherited his father's vampire genes or not. It was a 50/50 chance he could be a vampire. I hoped he'd be human, but it if he was a vamp, I'd learn all I could so that I could make sure he grew up properly.

Mom and Dad came to visit. They were instantly in love with Davis and I barely got to hold him while they were here. Mom was even talking about retiring so she could move closer. I  noticed while she and Dad were here, that they seemed to be 'extra' close. I'd never had any illusions about their relationship growing up, but I had to admit it was nice to see my parents together.

Shortly after they returned home Sha got a call from my mom while I was at Davis' checkup. She delivered the news to me when I got home. My father had died. I couldn't believe it, he was just here and now he was gone. I took the news hard, but I was glad Sha was there for me. She offered to fly back to Bridgeport with me, but I didn't want to take Davis. It was a big city, but I didn't want to run the risk of possibly running into Boyd. I knew that if he saw Davis he'd know he was the father. I didn't want to share my son with him.

I returned home after the reading of the will. Being his only child, Dad had left the majority of his estate to me. The rest went to Mom and some charities he donated to. I was anxious to get back to Moonlight Falls because I missed Davis and Sha. Mom said she'd handle settling up Dad's estate for me.

Going Solo: Gen 2.10 Kerri

Two days later I was standing in front of Shasha's lovely Victorian home. It was a large place with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. She said it was a family home that had been in the family for generations. Since the passing of her grandmother, it was just her and her sister, but she'd recently gotten married and moved. Being in Moonlight Falls was a lot different than Brideport, the air was cleaner, fresher. You could hear bird chirping, it was nice.

I did call Mom to let her know I'd arrived safely. She wasn't  happy about me traveling in my 'condition' but since it was early, it was fine. She was getting more maternal in her old age it seemed. Living with Shasha was nice, she got me an easel and put it in the front alcove. It got great light and made for relaxing painting.

Dad called to see how I was doing. He missed me already and I'd only been gone a week. Shasha cooked for me, we went on walks, and she gathered fresh honey every day. It was nice. The night before I was supposed to leave Shasha surprised me after dinner. She'd respected my choice before about being only friends, but when she kissed me, I didn't mind.

It was nice being in Moonlight Falls, the pace was relaxing and being with Shasha, again, felt right. I wasn't sure if I was clinging to her as a rebound thing and I was up front with her about that. I didn't want to lie or hurt her after all she'd been doing for me. Her response was to tell me she loved me and had for a long time. She wasn't worried about my confused feelings, instead we would take it one day at a time and see what happened. That night I decided to make the stay in Moonlight Falls a permanent one.

Making the call to Mom to let her know I was staying was hard. She took it hard, she was hoping to have me back home to spoil her grandchild. Same with for Dad and Grams. They all called to 'guilt' me a bit, but in the end understood it was my choice. And it wasn't like I was moving out of the country, just a different city. I really started to settle into life once I decided to stay. We turned one of the rooms into a nursery.
